Summer is a time for barbecues, pool parties, and camping trips. But while you’re enjoying some fun in the sun, there are creepy crawlers trying to invade your home and crash your party. Ants, flies, gnats, roaches, wasps and even rodents are more active during the summer. Learn how you can get rid of unwanted bugs with these summer pest control tips.

1. Block Entry

Make it impossible for bugs to enter your home. Regularly check all doors into your home for cracks. Inspect window screens for any holes or tears. Repair any holes or tears immediately and install new window stripping where necessary.

2. Maintain Your Yard

An overgrown lawn is a breeding ground for all kinds of pests. Frequently cut your grass and any bushes or trees on your property. Firewood should be neatly stacked and stored away from your home. Any debris around your yard you should immediately get rid of.

3. Inspect Lawn Furniture & Playsets

Lawn furniture and swing sets are a great place for spiders and other critters to make a nest. Inspect any lawn ornaments or patio furniture for webs or egg sacs. Dispose of them as soon as possible. Additionally, any holes or tears in patio furniture should be repaired or replaced.

4. Keep Your Home Clean

There’s no bigger attraction to bugs than crumbs or food that’s been left out. Regularly sweep and vacuum floors to get rid of leftover crumbs. Wiping down counters, taking the garbage out and properly storing food will help keep ants, gnats, and fruit flies out of your home.

5. Eliminate Standing Water

Even just a bottle cap full of water can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Make sure there isn’t any standing water around your property by putting outside toys away and throwing garbage away. Standing water can be easy to miss so be sure to check for leaky rain spouts or leaks around your air conditioning unit.
